Physical Education

Physical Education

Here at Geelong Baptist College we endeavour to offer our secondary students a variety of sporting and physical activity opportunities that will encourage all students to reach their maximum potential. There is a balanced focus on both ‘maximum participation’ and achieving sporting excellence.

College Curriculum

  • Compulsory Health & Physical Education at Yr 7 and  8 (3 periods per week)
  • Elective Physical Education at Year 9 and 10 (4 periods per week)
  • Wednesday Sport Program: Compulsory sports program for all secondary students. Students choose from a vast array of activities ranging from lawn bowls, to gymnastics to tennis. (2 periods per week)
  • Inter-house Sports Carnivals: Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming.

Inter-school Sporting Opportunities

The College is involved in two independent sporting organisations:

  • WCSSA (Western Christian Schools Sports Association). This involves three full-day sports carnivals against eight other Christian Schools. These take place in Bendigo, Geelong and Ballarat and the sports on offer are netball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, softball and cricket.
  • GISSA (Geelong Independent Schools Sports Association). The College uses their three sporting carnivals; Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming to select a school team to compete at GISSA’s associated carnivals. GISSA also offers numerous other sporting carnivals where students can compete in team sports such as basketball, netball and cricket.
  • SSV (School Sport Victoria). As the Secondary College is an affiliate member of SSV students have the opportunity to be selected in State representative teams. Parents can access this information on the SSV website at
